National Police Frequency 2007/07/07 08:47 Karma: -11
As a reminder to all fire police, fire and EMS personnel. You are not allowed to utilize the National Emergency Police Frequency 155.475 MHZ for any reason. This frequency is to be used by law enforcement agencies only, regardless of what your local police department or Berks Radio may say. This frequency is owned by the Pennsylvania State Police not your local police department or Berks Radio, they were given permission by the state police to use this frequency.

It states in the directive by the state police, "The National Emergency police Frequency (NEPF) is available nationwide for use in police emergency situations. Specific use of the frequency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is controlled by the Pennsylvania State Police through this plan. This plan authorizes dispatching on NEPF by a local government organization. Authority to dispatch will be granted through a Memorandum of Understanding between the local government and the Pennsylvania State Police. The Pennsylvania State Police will retain control as licenses at these locations."

The directive goes on to state the eligibility, "Any state, county or local agency with full law enforcement power which has recieved authorization from the Pennsylvania State Police is eligible to operate on this frequency."

The reason why this subject is being brought up is because recently there was a fire police officer from the central part of Berks County contacting the Norristown Dispatch Center for the State Police on the national frequency. If you are caught on this frequency by the State Police be prepared for the consequences.

Nicely put Randy. I was listening to some of this and was wondering WTF myself. I wouldn't even know why fire police would be able to talk on National anyway.

To those parties using this frequency:

You can be held responsible to the FCC for unauthorized use of this frequency, you must obtain a letter of concurrence (permission) from the license holder for any frequencies you or your department do not hold licenses for. Either yourself or the company/individual who programmed your radio (tracable through imbedded information in your radio) can be held liable for $15,000 for EACH frequency. So you have to ask yourself "do you feel lucky punk?...well do ya?"

Just my two cents from an individual who plays by the rules. Best to pay your dues to the County Fire Police Assoc. and use the frequency they hold licenses for.
